"You'll sing a different tune when the race wars start!"
I was sitting in a dive bar in west Texas in the mid-2000's when someone said this to me. I looked up from the warm bottle of beer I was nursing and finally made eye contact with the loud mouth drunk who just made this statement. This man had said some ignorant shit right before this and I had made the choice to get into a one-sided battle of wits with him about his choice of words and shitty beliefs. I replied back that I really hope the race wars don't start because he's the first one I would go after. This seemed to confuse the man.
I've never understood someone feeling like they're better than someone else for something they had no control over. It's moronic. This man's statement wasn't the first time I was exposed to racism growing up in Texas America. I can remember being in elementary school and I had become friends with a girl who I guess was my "girlfriend", which in elementary didn't mean much of anything too serious. I was in class and another kid asked me "Is your dad okay with you having a Mexican girlfriend?" I just said sure. To be honest, at that time I don't think I even knew what Mexican meant. I just knew she was cool and we liked each other. He told me his dad told him that he could only have white girlfriends. I thought that was strange and eventually I learned what Mexican meant. It didn't change anything. In college I had a classmate question what I was doing when I was flirting with a black girl between classes. I made him extremely uncomfortable when I played dumb and asked why and made him actually say his bullshit out loud.
Years later, a coworker told me that his parents didn't allow him to watch any TV shows with black people who were successful. He wasn't allowed to watch Fresh Prince, Cosby, Family Matters, etc. They were allowed to watch Sanford & Son because they were poor. What. The. Actual. Fuck. But out of all the crazy bullshit I've heard dumb people racists say, I had never received warning of an impending race war. In fact, I have thought about that dive bar and that conversation a lot over the years and I don't think I've ever been worried that "it might happen."
Growing up, my dad always told me to never make assumptions about people, and that if you ever sit down and actually talk and get to know someone who comes from a different walk of life than you, you'll find you have more in common than you think. So that's what I've always tried to do when meeting new people and it's always worked well for me. I'm not saying that you're going to be friends with everyone and just because you have something in common doesn't mean that they are a good person who is worth your time. There are plenty of assholes out there with shitty personalities and beliefs.
I spent a decade traveling all over the United States and other countries for work. My favorite thing during this time was to hit the hotel bar in whatever town I was in or find some hole in the wall place and hangout with the locals and meet people in the area. I got to learn what their lives were like living there and what their interests, hobbies, and aspirations were. I found out that what my dad told me was true (like a lot of advice he's given me). Most people in the world want the same things as everyone else.
I have friends ranging from pastors, teachers, doctors, and nurses to drug dealers and felons and everything in between. I don't label them. They're just friends to me. I think that's a big contributor to the division is everyone feels the need to label everything. You're either THIS or you're THAT and this mentality that if you're not for us then you're against us. "Oh, you don't like Trump, you're a dirty liberal!" No, I'm an anarchist who thinks ALL politicians are scum of the earth. There's too many people out there actively trying to find opponents and conflicts. Stop labeling shit and trying to fight everyone, put your phone down, and actually talk to someone. Us/Them mentality just creates division and hate in the world and what's the point in that?
Now...I am in no way telling you that you have to be nice to everyone and put up with their bullshit. There are some motherfuckers out there who don't have shit going for them other than "being white" in America. You've seen these incel cucks loading into the backs of moving trucks with their temu shields and face masks to go harass people protesting. Fuck those guys! Throw a lock on the back of the truck after they load up and push it into a river. No one cares about them and no one should. 95 percent of those tactical cosplay pricks have never even been in a fight, let along thrown a punch, but still believe they are "alpha males". If you have to say you're an alpha, you're not, buddy.
I grew up in the 80's & 90's and entered into adulthood in the 00's. I watched this country progress for 35 years. I've seen how terrible this country can be over those 35 years. I watched the L.A. riots on TV as a kid. I remember Matthew Shepard and Nicholas West. I remember James Byrd Jr. and what those sick fucks did to him in Jasper, Texas. I saw Columbine on the news while I was in high school. I have watched the ugly face of hate show up in the news throughout my entire life. But while this was going on, the country was progressing, helping to fight against racial discrimination and changing dumb, broken laws denying equal rights to everyone. I have watched society progress to stop using hurtful language and slurs. We were moving in a POSITIVE direction.
Then that racist dipshit came down the escalator and we've been regressing ever since. He began running his mouth and suddenly there were people who felt they had a voice.....a voice to say racist shit. I'm not going to argue with you about whether they are racist or not. They are. Unless you dropped out of school, you were taught history. In history we studied about the horrific events in Germany. My school even took a field trip to the Holocaust Museum. We were taught about Nazis and fascism and how it happened. We were all taught that Nazis were bad.
As someone who borders Gen X and Millenial, I can tell you that up until 2016, it wasn't normal to see so many Nazi flags around AMERICA. Reagan, Both Bushes, Clinton, Kerry, McCain, Romney, Obama....not once did you see them speaking in front of crowds holding up Nazi flags. Up until 2016, the ONLY times I ever saw a Nazi flag was being sold at booths in flea markets that sold knives and swords or if it was displayed somewhere, you were somewhere you didn't want to be. We heard about neo-Nazis and white supremacists, but never in my fucking life did I ever think I would see them out in public on the streets...supporting a political candidate who validates their bullshit. And now EVERY politician in that party just tries to outdo each other with who can be the biggest piece of shit.
His first term was ridiculous and completely uncalled for, but I was hoping he was done and we could move on to someone who is less of a piece of shit. I miss how quiet it was for 4 years.
But as this country has entered it's 47th president's term, the "race war" tensions feel like they are intensifying. They are purposely trying to divide the country by blaming immigrants and calling them criminals. Unfortunately, there's a small percentage of (presumably) small dicked white dudes who feel like this dong bag of a president gives them the right to be pieces of shit. Somehow, this shit wrinkle being in office validates their petty idiotic beliefs.
Don't buy into the propaganda and bullshit that they are telling you. Go out and meet your neighbors. Talk to them. You'll find that you have more in common with them than you do with the group of angry white men running this country. Now that you know your neighbors, PROTECT THEM! Get armed and stay vigilant!
This country is founded by immigrants and built by immigrants. If we let this continue, where do you think they will stop? Illegal immigrants? All immigrants? Criminals? Anyone who opposes their regime? Anyone rich enough to pay to stay?
I don't want to lose any of my friends and family over some pedophile president's ego trip. I sure as hell don't want to live in an all-white America. Think about how fucking bland the food would be! I can't live in Texas without good tacos and Mexican food! Plus all the delicious food from other countries and cultures that y'all are taking for granted. Nobody wants to eat Amanda's Gluten Free Tacos. You know that's ass! Plus all of the style, art, music, etc. that we get from all the different cultures that make America the great country that it is!
I really hope the U.S. can progress and deescalate this bullshit that Orange Julius is trying to push in America. Just know that if it really does get that bad and y'all see a white boy out there smashing other whites with a metal folding chair and yelling "Chinga La Migra!" as he throws a molotov, just know your boy's got y'all's back!
